Villa come into this game well rested and only lost once in 2008 (change of coach at Fulham resulted in that shocking result). They’re 8-2-4 at home and have a positive goal difference of + 7. Occupying 6th place in Premiership, 8 points behind 5th placed Everton and 6th placed Liverpool. So I would say UEFA Cup hopes very realistic at the moment and they do indeed need to pick up 3 points here tonight and they will.
Curtis Davies is out but I believe Mellberg and Reo-Coker should be available. Apart from that all good in the hood. Carew, Young, Maloney, Agbonlahor & Co. will surely put more than one past useless Boro.
Boro come into this game after Cup defeat at mighty Cardiff’s hands. Good thing they are out of the Cup, they played boring football and never looked like winning it anyway. Oh and Sheffield Utd. Game, if it wasn’t for an own goal they would’ve been out then! Boro are 2-3-3 in 2008. Poor performances and no stability with new signing Alves looking promising but at the moment I wouldn’t say he was worth all the money they’ve paid for him. Lack of scoring won’t help Boro coming into this game. They will be outplayed for big parts of the game all across the pitch, trust me. Boro are 12th in the league and are 3-4-7 away from home with a negative goal difference of – 12, scoring only 11 times away from home.

Aston Villa are unbeaten in four Premier League outings against Middlesbrough. Last encounter between these two teams resulted in 3-0 win for Villa (away from home). Should Villa win this fixture they will do a first double over Boro since 2002-2003 if I’m not mistaken.
