My main confidence of this bet is in the lack of a show expected from Mark Brown this week.
The kiwi has amazingly won the last 2 european tour events. Now, for anyone NOT called Tiger Woods, just winning one event is an amazing achievement, and many players take a week or so off after a tournament, to celebrate, take stock, and look for prosperous sponsorship deals. That he actually played last week was an interesting point, and the fact that he won the event was pretty damn remarkable. Going into the final round he was a couple off the pace, and at one point in the final round, he was 3 behind my tip Kyoti. However the little japanese fella lost his bottle in good style, and pretty much handed it to Brown. Even then he tried his best to muck things up after a run of 5 birdies on the bounce made him 3 clear going down 18. He almost shanked his approach into the drink, which would have cost him very dear. It was the shot of a very tired, and emmotionally drained man. I am amazed as many golf experts that he is teeing it up again this week, but you could also argue that he is in the form of his life, so why not.
I can't have Brown at any price this week, as he is surely spent now, and will look for a good break after this week to look back on his glorious fortnight. It is also interesting to note that he has just come back to tour golf this season after taking a break for a year or 2 because he didn't think he was good enough !!
Arjun Atwal isn't just chucked in here because I don' think Brown is good enough though. He is actually playing great golf at the moment. He has flitted between the PGA tour and the european tour, and has found a good game wherever he plies his trade. He was pretty quiet on the main tour last year, but on the nationawide he managed 3 top 10's out of 11 cuts made, and this year he was 2nd in his only tourny that side of the pond.
He has come back to the european tour this year with avengeance after a 3 year layoff and has been playing superbly. 3 tournies and nothing worse than tied 17th means that he is in good form. He will like the layout of the course which is being played on by the tour for the first time, and he will be hungry to proove to himself and the rest of the tour that he is worthy of his place on here.
