Bohemians are one of the teams that will try to get to the title this season. Last season they ended on third place, and for this season they bought some good players, especially in the offense which was one of the weak parts of the team. Along with Fenn, Mansaramo and Crowe, in attack will play their new signing - Jason Bryne. Four times Eircom top scorer should be great addition to attack which could become deadly. Last season they had best defense in league, mostly because they couldn't score a lot so they had to be cautious. This season it will all be very balanced.
Galway is one of the relegation candidates, along with newcomers Finn Harps and Cobh, and Bray and UCD they are one team that could get relegated. Last season was their first in Eircom and they managed to stay in league, but didn't impress. They had some great results on the road, but at the same time they were the worst home team. W4-D5-L8 at home with negative goal difference isn't the best way to stay in league and this season it will be even harder as they didn't have any spectacular newcomers, seems like they lost more then they got in transfer period. Only few bright spots should be O'Shea and Leech who should be their best attacker this season. In preparation games he scored three goals in three games, but they played against weak opposition such is Athlone.
I will quote their coach Cousins:
“It really is a brilliant opening match for us. It was always going to be tough no matter who we got. When it is Bohemians, a team with aspirations of winning the title, it is an even bigger challenge.”
From that statement i don't see his optimism, they expect brilliant opening match, but didn't mentioned any points...
Bohemians coach doesn't like his team to be rated as title favourites, but clearly they have chance and he said it himself, mentioning that if they avoid the injuries they will win some trophy. Bohemians had some though preparation games such is one against Burnley (0:0) and even one big Europian club, Ukraine giant Dynamo Kiev. In that match Bohemians were leading for some time, but eventually lost 1:2. I must state that Dynamo played most of the match with players that supposed to be first eleven. For this match Bohs will be without Heary, Liam Burns and attacker Mansaram, but they all can be substituted.
Galway won't have injury issues, but their midfield looks really weak as they have lost Murphy and Greg O'Halloran, who was loaned because he had some argue with management. He was unsettled in club and wanted to leave. This two were good midfielders and i can't understand what happened and why this two left.
As a conclusion, Bohs have better quality among their lines, it's opener of the season and they sometimes know to be tricky to predict, but i will judge it on last season performances which showed Galway is slow starter. They took only one point in first four rounds, having lost season opener (also at home) against Sligo (0:2). Tradition isn't really important here as there isn't any, but i will mention last season games:
2007-10-12 Bohemians 2-0 Galway
2007-05-25 Galway 0-1 Bohemians
2007-04-20 Bohemians 1-1 Galway
I expect tough match, Galway didn't showed anything good at home, Bohs should be too much for them and this odds seem to be too high. 2.40 looks like a great offer, i would consider anything above 2.10, even then i would probably try with medium stake. I estimate chances of Bohs win here on around 50%, probably higher. I expect 1:2 or 0:2 result here...
