Tonight (or shall I say very early hours of tomorrow GMT) we have another exciting match up which in my opinion is a mismatch!

Flyers Vs Sabres tonight.

I’ll start with Sabres. Ok maybe not the all star team, but team boasting a decent squad. I mean come on, Ryan Smith (Goalie) is tied for 4th for over all wins in the league and in his career has won 6 and lost 3 in total Vs Flyers. I would also like to mention that he won his last two starts against Flyers, so 2 out of 2 this season – good! Sabres defeated Flyers both home and away this season 3-2 and 6-5 (won in SO) respectively. I think Sabres have quality players in Maxim Afinogenov, Jason Pominville, Jaroslav Spacek, Thomas Vanek, Brian Campbell etc. Good thing about this bet is that Sabres are coming off 4-3 loss to NYR, who are on the roll at the moment, so we can forgive Buffalo for losing that game, I’m not gonna look into this much. Sabres will see this game as a chance to get back to their wining ways against depleted Flyers squad. I know you might say Sabres are inconsistent and I will agree but remember this is Flyers with an average squad and tonight missing their top players Mike Richards (star player), two-time 40-goal scorer Simon Gagne (concussion), Joffrey Lupul (high ankle sprain), who has 18 goals and 39 points in 2007-08, Steve Downie (day to day), Rory Fitzpatrick (out of action indefinitely), Derian Hatcher (out for 3 weeks), Denis Tolpeko (out for a week). If you ask me that’s hell of a lot important players missing, especially if you think of guys like Richards, Lupul & Gagne – huge loss!

Sabres have won 2 out of last 5, don’t forget this 5 game run included 2 meetings with NYR and they are on fire now!

Flyers coming off an OT loss to Florida on Sat. Panthers are awful and were outplayed by NYR last night in 5-0 loss. So NYR beat Florida and Panthers beat Flyers hmmmmm interesting. Last game between Sabres and NYR was a close match up, this tells me that Sabres are a decent team and play better hockey and are better than Flyers by a mile at the moment (some of you might say it’s not always the case). As mentioned above Flyers will be missing a number of important players for tonight’s game. Injuries and Flyers latest slump in which they’ve gone 0-8-2 in their last 10 games to match their worst franchise winless streak in 2006 season is not gonna help the team. Oh and let’s not forget Flyers have finished that year last in NHL, they were outplayed a by a number of teams then. Although I must admit they’ve improved this year big time, they are not the same team at the moment with so many injuries it’s proving tough to play better teams in NHL. As you can see from below latest results Flyers are struggling on fire power, now don’t forget that Richards is not playing tonight and he’s their top man in goals, assists and points! Who’s gonna step in his shoes???

Stats and situation all point to Sabres win in regulation. Now attractive odds of all sorts are available for that, but I’m not gonna risk it this time and will go for an outright win, including OT & SO, just in case (these two teams ‘love’ OT & SO). Flyers might have injuries and are in trouble but I’m sure they will try as hard as they can and will put up a good fight tonight! Nevertheless I expect an easy 2 goal margin win for Sabres.
