When you are playing against USA at Davis Cup there’s only one option if your players can play on many surfaces. The option is claycourt and making the conditions as slow as possible. James Blake’s game is much hitting the ball with power from both sides and now he can’t end the balls as fastly as he wants because slow conditions. Stefan Koubek is more clayplayer compared to Blake from his abilities. They have two meetings on the hard, 2002 at AO Koubek won and last year Blake was better at US-Open but Koubek was a good opponent and was well in ballrallies. Blake’s record at clay isn’t bad, 64-43 (Koubek 144-127) but at Europe where claycourts are slower than at USA he is 21-26. Koubek hasn’t too good results from clay but he raised his gamelevel last year and for me he is clear facourite while he has been able to give a fight for Blake on the surfaces what has favoured Blake more.
