Marin Cilic is another croatian with good serve. If Jurgen Melzer can do anything it’s getting the ball back to game. Melzer who can be very errorprone sometimes but now it feels like he has his confidence on right rails. Usually baselineplayers who are returning the ball well are getting him to errors but I wouldn’t count at least yet Cilic as a good baseliner. Cilic is 195cm tall what makes his serve more effective but his tallness makes him a bit weak mover around the court and when Cilic wants to end balls fastly it should give Melzer good shot. Melzer is a lefty and I think that is an advantage for him in this match-up. It’s hard to say anything by Cilic’s stats against lefties because he is 11-8 against them but 1-6 against top 100 played against Young, Koubek, Zverev, Lopez, Llodra, and Verdasco. Won match against Falla but Cilic has had much improvement after those matches. Cilic has opened his year well but I think he isn’t yet as good as his close match against Kohlschreiber and straightsets win over Almagro are telling. Melzer took waited win over Novak on the first round after good performance.
