I know Grant is expected to rest a number of first team players because of his important match against Arsenal next Sunday, but nonetheless I believe this will not affect the outcome of the match.

Essien is suspended for Sunday’s fixture and thus is expected to feature today. Cech has also recovered from his thigh injury and could replace Cudicini. On the other hand, Albelda is not available for Valencia due to a suspension. Joaquin is also not available due to an injury. Angulo, Caneira, and Baraja remain all sidelined.

Verdict: With the outstanding home form of the Blues during the past few years, and with a depleted Spanish side, I believe Chelsea on a level ball is a very safe bet.
