Super Rugby League - St Helens RLFC vs Leeds Rhinos Rugby betting preview

After 27 rounds of regular season, and 3 weeks of Play-Offs its come down to this....The SuperLeague Grand Final.....And its 1st v 2nd as St Helens take on Leeds..

If this match is anything like the one these two teams produced 2 weeks ago at Knowsley Road then we're in for a cracker. That game finished 10-8 to Saints and I've got every confidence this one will be just as close. I was at that game and it was brutal, one of the toughest games of Rugby League I've ever seen. Big hits and Big Defence.

I've been impressed with the intensity in all the play off matches this season and before Leeds beat Wigan last week, no match had been won by more than 6 points. The reason Wigan went down by 30 points last week at Leeds was due to the fact that Wigan were playing their 4th huge match (3rd away from home) on the run and after defying all the odds and winning the previous 3 games, (Saints, Hull, Bradford, Leeds) they just had nothing left in the tank to compete for the full 80mins at Leeds. Leeds just ran away from a worn out Wigan in the latter stages of the match.

So a rested Saints team take on a full strength Leeds team looking to turn the tables on Saints after the last match they played. 18 points in total in that game (14 1st half, 4 2nd Half), and I see no reason why this Grand Final match wont be equally as close. Both teams are defending very well, It was Saints' defence that won them the Play off match 2 weeks ago as Leeds pressured and pressured in the second half. Leeds' defence was equally as impressive in the 1st half when Saints pressured for most of the opening half hour.

These 2 teams have the best defensive records over the season. Leeds havent conceeded more than 20 points since July 20th and only 20 points in total in their last 3 matches !!!!!

Saints have rarely conceeded 20 points at all this season when they've had a full team out. During the regular season....Saints have conceeded an average 15.5 points per game, Leeds an average 18 points per game.

Saints have slacked off at times this season and have hit dodgy patches of form, but they ALWAYS perform in the big games. Saints are a big game team! I expect Saints to welcome back Fa'asavalu and Long for the final so should be at full strength.

This game is gonna be tough, hard, intense and Close.... Ever since the SuperLeague title has been decided by a grand final, only 2 matches (from 9) have gone over the 38.5 point barrier. The last 5 have been under 38.5. The last 2 times these teams met the points total was under 38.5.
