Helmond Go Ahead Eagles
Too hot on this one.
May sounds a bit strange, but Go Ahead Eagles are one of the first promotion candicates for this season. They started the season excellent, thrashing FC Emmen at home 6:0. The preparation campaign was a total success, with very good results against high rated teams, and no injuries at all. The board spent enough this season to make a really strong squad, and with the help of Mark Overmars as technical director, they have been strengthen a lot. The new faces that came was all very strong transfers for the division standards, and the club is walking in a totally proffesional way. Achmed Ahahaoui (Haarlem), Said Bakkati (ADO Den Haag), Robbert Maruanaya (SC Heerenveen), Rik Platvoet (VVV Venlo), Orlando Smeekes (Helmond Sport), Luuk te Boekhorst (De Graafschap), Oguzhan Türk (SC Heerenveen) and Dominique van Dijk (Sparta) was their transfers.
To the other side, Helmond didn't moved enough during summer, and their squad seems same like last season where they struggled. Three players came, Sjaak Lettinga (FC Volendam), Peter Uneken (FC Den Bosch), Jordan Remacle (RKC), and six left, Geert den Ouden (Den Bosch), Sandro Calabro (VVV-Venlo), Roy Hendrikse (stopt), Mike Mampuya (VVV-Venlo), John Vos, Ivar van Dinteren (Stormvogels Telstar). The most important departure was Geert den Ouden, who was a really high rated striker. As their coach said, their target this season is first six, but i doubt that they can go so high with the current squad that has been weakened.
Generally i think the quality distance between Go Ahead and all other mid table teams have been stretched, and Go Ahead Eagles can take all three points easier than last meetings, and keep leading the table to win the first period of the league, which is the most important period.
300 Go Ahead Eagles fans will travel at Helmond, with only 10 euros expenses, as GAE board decided to pay the fans buses.
