These 2 sides met 4 times last season and none of which Manchester United won by 2 goals or more. As a matter of fact, Reading drew twice. However, I am going to put my money on them to buck the trend this time round. Yes, they would definitely miss Neville’s ball in from the right and his overlapping runs but that is the only real miss. When one considers those missing for Reading, it would still be in Manchester United’s favor.

Reading would miss Lita, Convey, Fae, Sonko, Little, all of which decent players who definitely could make the first team. Sonko would be the most missed in my opinion and against an attacking side such as Manchester United’s, they definitely would want their best back four. Then there is the loss of talismanic midfielder Sidwell who left on a free transfer.

Unlike last season, when they arrived as an unknown quantity, Reading’s loss of influential players could count against them this time round and I am confident that Manchester United should wrap up this game easily or even repeat last season’s opener to set the tone for the rest of the season. Manchester’s opening day fixture resulted in a 5-1 win at home against Fulham.
