To say Middlesbrough is ravaged by injuries is an understatement. Their backline have been virtually wiped out and Young is the only recognized defender left. Possibly Arca would be tasked to play in defense too since there really is little other choice. They would be up against a Blackburn side that started their season early with the Intertoto Cup where they totally killed off their inadequate opposition 6-0 on aggregate. It speaks volumes of their preparations and strike-force. A strike-force consisting of Cruz, McCarthy and Roberts must make most defenses take notice, more so one which is desperately lacking such as Middlesbrough’s.

Middlesbrough is of course still plagued by transfer rumors surrounding their star striker Yakubu while new signing Sanli is still an unknown quantity in the Premiership.

Blackburn had proved rather resolute last season and I would expect the same once again from them. In midfield, I could see Savage shackling Downing while Bentley and Pedersen run riot against Middlesbrough’s inexperienced defense.

Given the handicap being level, it is most certainly a punt I am more than willing to take as I cannot see how Middlesbrough could take all 3 points here. Blackburn to win 2-1.
