Which Iban Mayo will we see tomorrow? The one who blasted up the mountain in the Giro earlier this year to take a stage or the oh too familiar sight of him being distanced by the favourites? They finished together in the main bunch today.

Paolo Savoldelli gave us a visual reminder today why so few riders ride both the giro and le tour, they are close together and hard hard races. Well Iban Mayo rode the Giro.

Manuel Beltran is a good climber and more often than not finishes in the top 20 on the nasty mountain stages. He is certainly a more consistent and reliable man to have on your side in the mountains than Mayo who would be the last man i would choose to have race for my life in the peleton.

The odds so heavily stacked in Mayo's favour completly bemuse me. I cannot think of a single reason other than Beltrans leg falling off or something why there is such a huge difference in their odds. To my mind Beltran ought to be a 1.75 or 1.8 favourite over Mayo at 1.85-1.95 yet Beltran is a whopping 2.25 with Sporting Odds.

Maybe someone has had a big bet, maybe Beltran is carrying an injury. Theres nothing about it on the official Liquigas site just "Among the most resolute riders approaching to the Tour, there is Manuel Beltran, an athlete with a great experience that could stand out in mountain stages".

Sums him up perfectly.
