Gilles Simon is having a solid season for his standards, but his form is in obvious downtrend after the French Open finished. After Hamburg tournament, Gilles played at Olympics, again on grass court and has won in first two rounds against Dimitrov and Kukushkin, but lost to Juan Martin Del Potro in three.

Tommy Haas, on the other side, is playing one of his last seasons at the ATP level and is at the stage of his career when he has nothing to lose. He was struggling at the beginning of the season with results, but it was due to his health problems mostly.

Once he resolved some of the issues, he started playing much better and the results improved at the same moment. Firstly he reached semi-finals of Munich Open where he lost to in-form Cilic, then he reached third round of French Open, coming all the way from the qualifying rounds where he lost to Gasquet in four sets. As said, the improvement was obvious and he continued with great performance in Halle where he won over Federer in finals. Rankings didnt allow him to play at Olympics, but he continued with great performance in Hamburg reaching finals against Monaco.

Haas has 3-1 lead in mutual matches. The German is already in USA for last two weeks as he played at Washington open and lost in another final, this time to Dolgopolov. Haas already won against Nalbandian here, which is surely a very big test for everyone and for sure, he should not be an underdog in a game against slightly out of form Simon.
