Shuai Peng vs Arantxa Rus

Shuai Peng is having much worse season than she could imagine at the end of last year when she was in top twenty in the World and when further progress was expected this year. However, hard court tournaments started bad for her in January not being able to reach more than second round all the way till Kuala Lampur WTA tournament where she lost to Petra Martic in quarterfinals. Clay court season wasn’t much better as she had four losses in a row before French Open. However, she played much better there and got to the third round, winning over Paszek and Dominguez-Lino, both in two sets, but losing to Maria Sharapova in the third round. Here at Wimbledon, she won over Zaniewska in three sets in first round and against Morita in two straight sets in second.

Arantxa Rus, on the other side, is still someone who is making her progress to the WTA level. Just like her today’s opponent, she had a bad start of the season not having even one win on WTA level, mixed up with playing some ITF tournaments, but without significant results. Clay court season wasn’t much better either, with the exception of Roland Garros where she managed to get to the fourth round beating players like Hampton, Razzano and Georges, but losing finally to Kaia Kanepi in three sets. Her grass court season started in Hertongenbosch where she won Parmentier in first round, but lost to Sofia Arvidsson in second, while she defeated Misaki Doi and Sam Stosur in first two rounds at Wimbledon.

The odds are based on the fact that Rus won over Stosur (someone who should give her best tennis on grass court) in previous rounds, but Stosur played that match well below her usual performances. Peng already won once over Rus, four years ago in Tashkent and today should be no different, easier or not.
