Serie A: Juventus vs Napoli
Juventus made a good game against old rivals Inter, wining 2-0 and scoring both at second half (Casseres, Del Piero). Juventus will also play with Napoli at the Cup Final, but now after the draw of Milan yesterday, it is even more important to secure a win against Napoli since they are playing at Torino. Antonio Conte was clever to release the pressure from his team about the title and said: “It was a difficult match against Inter and thats what we expected. We have to win Napoli now to get the second place secured once and for all. Thats what is important now, after the loss of Lazio by Parma. Of course Milan is leading for the title but we will take advantage of their mistakes, like the draw of Milan yesterday vs Catania. Napoli is a very good team, made it to the Cup Final and could do even better at the Ch.League. Its a very difficult game and we have to be careful to avoid mistakes.”
No problems for Juventus, they will have their best team lined up against Napoli. Conte will probably choose the old 3-5-2 system again, with a strong midfield (Vidal, Pirlo, Marchisio, Lichsteiner, De Ceglie) and with Matri and Vucinic up front. If needed, Del Piero, Quagliarella, Pepe, Krasic and Casseres are ready to support. Especially Casseres is also very possible to play in the midfield instead of Lichsteiner.
- 40-20-7 the history with Napoli
- 5 points away from Milan 1st position
- Never lost a game this year
- Last 10 games: 4 wins, 6 draws = Juventus needs to loose no more points if to challenge Milan’s place
- This is the 3rd game in their home in a raw: Juventus-Milan 2-2, Juventus-Inter 2-0
- Last 7 games: always score! Last game did not score was 0-0 away with Milan
- Last two games, two draws, 2-2 (Catania, Udineze)
- After this game, they play against 3rd-place-rivals Lazio away.
Napoli were very close to get the third place from Lazio, but they just couldn’t do it. They got a 2–2 draw against Catania, although they were winning 2-0 up to the 67′. They conceded two goals from a corner kick (again..). Manager Matsari could not believe it..: “I cant see conceding the same goals all over again.. Thats what we always practice but we still make mistakes!”
Matsari also said about the match against Juventus: “They play at their home, they have not lost a game, its going to be very difficult. Juventus got better at the second part of the league and this is going to be a very demanding game for us.. We have to try very hard to make it difficult for them, but we’ll also play our style. I know Pirlo is a key-player for them and I have some plans to limit his play, but football is a team-game and one player is less important than the team.”
Napoli also has no problems, and they will play with their best 11. They will probably choose a 3-4-1-2 system, but it may be changed into a more defensive style. Maggio is back in the midfield, with Gargano, Inler, Zuniga, and Hamsik in front of them, having Lavezzi and Cavani up front. Canavaro will be the stepstone in the defense, with Aronica and Campagniaro.
MY BET: I was very puzzled whether to choose a Juventus win or a G/G bet, which they both give the same 1.80 odds. Napoli scores nearly in every match with every opponent, Juventus also scores always at their home. Its too Italian-style teams playing for their own targets (title vs 3rd place Ch.League). If they play attacking, they may score, but will they? I believe that Napoli has many easier games to go full ahead attacking, instead of opening up to Juventus, which I believe they will be happy with a draw and thats why I will go with a straight Juventus win. The “black-whites” are always serious against strong teams and their mind is how to get advantage of the yesterday’s draw of Milan. They know Napoli is not efficient in set-pieces especially from corner kicks and thats what they will do at most. I believe they will make it, although its not going to be easy. If you are “afraid” of a cautious-Italian-style game, then go for a G/G to be mind-free of who will win.
