Serbian Cup: Vojvodina vs Borac Cacak

This is a second leg of the semi-final matchup, the game will be played in Novi Sad on Vojvodina’s home ground. First game have ended as a goalless draw, in case of the same result penalty kick rules apply. However wins will play in the finals against the better team of the second semifinal game between Partizan and Crvena zvezda (first leg was won by Crvena zvezda 2:0).
Vojvodina is in a really poor form since the beginning of the second part, having only two wins, three draws and three losses. Things to be worse they didn’t score in six out of nine matches this Spring, what’s more, they didn’t win in previous five matches, scoring only one goal in these five. Two losses in a row, against Partizan 1:4 on the road and more surprisingly against Rad in front of their own fans 0:2. Although it’s expected for the team to bounce back here with a win today, it’s highly questionable what kind of Vojvodina’s performance we are gonna see today as they were simply clueless in attack this season and they need very big and quick improvement, almost miracle, if they are to win this one totally comfortable. Hosts will be without key central defender Mojsov who got red carded against Partizan and striker Petar Skuletic, who isn’t an integral part of starting XI, but showed some promise during the time he was given a chance.
Borac Cacak, on the other hand, is also not in a very good form. They are only at 15th position on the table and will have to fight not to relegate till the very end of the season. Although they have started much better at the second part of the season (already earned eleven points in comparison to only seven in first part of the season), they are still not on the safe position and their struggle is still to come. During the first game Borac have defended quite well being dangerous from time to time, but also making some mistakes in defense. Same thing is expected today, they are coming to defend here, maybe to try something with counter attacks, but generally coming for a 0:0 score.
Vojvodina might be a favorite to progress here, but not so huge favorite a direct win as the odds are suggesting. The board and the coach are saying that failure to get better results in championship is due to the fact that they put all their efforts to win the Cup, but this is simply an weak demagogy as no team could be affected with Cup games if they managed to score only once in previous five matches. Although they are still favorites to progress here (less worse than Borac, it could be said), it’s very likely that today this “we put all our efforts to win the Cup, that’s why we don’t care so much for league matches” demagogy is to be proven as just a way of buying time for the coach and the boards members.
