Real Madrid vs Dortmund
In the last game before tonight, Real Madrid was more effective then their opponent, had periods of very good performance, as the team scored five goals (15′ Cristiano Ronaldo, 55′ Carvajal, 68′ and 70′ Bale and 78′ Morata), against a poor defended Rayo Valeccano to get a 5:0 home victory in the last round of Spanish league.
With this result, Real remained third at the standings, with three points behind the leaders from Atletico Madrid and two from second placed Barcelona. At the same time, they have stopped the run of two consecutive defeats (against Barcelona and Sevilla), while the team aims a victory tonight and sealing of the qualification before the second leg, if possible. Striker Cristiano Ronaldo received a hit in the knee, but according to coach Ancelotti, his discomfort is past and he will start from the beginning. They will be aiming for a rematch tonight, still remembering their exclusion in the semifinals last season against the same opponent. Left back Marcelo (23/1) will be missed in the next few weeks at least and will be replaced by Fabio Coentrao. Otherwise, Real has no other real injury worries as the team misses midfielder Khedira (11/1), right back Arbeloa (16/0) and midfielder Jese (19/5), who are already long term absentees.
Dortmund comes from a 3:2 away victory against Stuttgart last weekend. However, not everything went to their favor in this game, as the team conceded two quick goals already after nineteen minutes without any domination from their hosts.
Gradually, the initiative of Dortmund became more and more obvious, as the side begin to create more and more chances, finally scoring the first one in 30th minute. With a penalty given in 67th minute, they tied to 2:2, but remained aggressive and finally took the victory with a goal five minutes before the full time whistle. In any way, hardly taken victory doesn’t surprise much this time, as the coach mixed his players a little, just to keep them fresh for tonight’s game. Striker Lewandovski (27/16) is suspended picking up card in previous round, while the visitors also miss central defender Subotic (10/0), left back Schmelzer (17/1), defensive midfielder Bender (19/1) and midfielder Bladzczykowski (16/2) all being out injured.
Everything except easy home victory would be a surprise here. Real is determined not to repeat the same mistake from the previous year and they shouldn’t, as Dortmund is currently nowhere close to the level they played twelve months ago.
