Jerzy Janowicz vs Ernests Gulbis

Jerzy Janowicz is not a well known player, but a talented younger player who is already twent one year old and has no bigger results on tennis stage till now. His position is 136th at ATP rankings and securing the second round of a Grand Slam is great success for him. Although he is without any bigger success on ATP level, he is still showing some promise on challenger tour and not only promise, but improvement in comparison to previous years too. As for grass court season, he played last week in Nothingham challenger where he won over Grigelis and De Voest, but lost in quarterfinals to Karol Beck in three. Also, he had to play qualifying round of Wimbledon, winning against Gojowczyk, Capkovic and Kudla, quite unknown players, while he won over Bolelli in four sets in the first round.

Ernests Gulbis, on the other side, is not much older than his opponent today, but still much much more experienced. Although he was one of the most talented guys as Junior player, he didn’t fulfill his talent and is behaving this season like a mediocre Challenger player in comparison to his previous season. This season was a disaster for him, his only better result was a quarterfinals of Delray Beach, tournament that is played on hard court, but tournament with weaker lineup. He started his grass court part of the season with loss against Simone Bolelli as he continued playing awful tennis in past few months (he had only one ATP win on clay court). However, clay isn’t his favorite surface as his powerful serve is ideal for faster surfaces. However, although he was in a lousy form this season, he made biggest surprise of first round as he defeated Tomas Berdych in three sets, all three finished in tie-break.

Gulbis is much more experienced at such a level and no matter of his previous form that was lousy for months, he is still a clear favorite to win this one against a player who has earned his first ATP level victory this season and for whom, entering the third round would simply be too much at this stage of career.
