Serie A: Palermo vs Lazio
Cagliari welcomed Palermo last week in a match where Cagliari was better, got stronger in the match and had the possesion, but not created many opportunities to score to the first half. To the second half Cagliari was better again, Palermo failed to react effectively after Cagliari scored twice, and they only reduced the score to 2-1 near the end. Once again Palermo revealed their weaknesses when playing away from home and failed to get any points at Cagliari. The undefeated streak of four games gone down in history for the team of Muti, but at least they are away from relegation troubles and playing without anxiety. Their target is to reach 5th place to the standings to gain a european ticket, with Roma, Inter and Napoli to be above them. Lazio has several problems, and gave a demanding game last Thursday against Atletico for the Europa League, but they still remain a strong team and have players who can get a match on their own, such as Klose. Palermo have their strengths at home and they want to exploit in order to accomplish something good. Only midfielder Armin Bacinovic remains out of action.
Lazio welcomed Cesena last week, where Cesena made a perfect start scoring early at 14th minute. The hosts pushed for the equalizer and lost two good opportunities, but at 35th minute Iaquinta did the 0-2 with a penalty, following a red card for Lazio. Lazio’s players seemed doomed, but in the second half they needed only ten minutes to turn the match totally although they played with ten, with goals from Hernanes (53′), Lulic (60′) and Kozak (63 ‘), completing an epic win. Last Thursday, Lazio welcomed Atletico Madrid for the first phase of “32” of Europa League and lost 1-3, a result that leaves them with so little possibilities to go through the next round. Now they should turn their attention to the league where they count three wins to their last four matches, trying to get the 3rd place in standings that leads to Champions League qualifiers. The game against Atletico caused them frustration their players showed that they have big hearts and they feel that they must prove it today once again. Defenders Mobido Diakhite and Abdoulay Konko are both punished, while out of action due to injury are Rozzi, Stankevicius, Radu, Cana, Brocchi and Biava.
I expect a real battle there, with Palermo and Lazio to prove again their defensive weaknesses.
