EURO 2012: Germany vs Greece
Germany is entering quarter-finals of EURO 2012 as the only nation which managed to get all three victories in a group phase, but as a strong favorites against one of the weakest sides in quarter-finals, at least that’s how it looks like at the paper. Germany started with a 1:0 victory over Portugal in a game that wasn’t too interesting to watch, especially because of the Portuguese who didn’t try to attack until they received a goal. In the second game, the Germans took advantage over not creative Holland who didn’t look like the real team and is probably the biggest disappointment at this EURO, finally the Germans won that game 2:1. In the last round, they were better than the Danish with the same score, 2:1. It was obvious that the Germans are the best team in this group and probably one of the favorites to win this EURO, but no matter on that, they are also not winning their matches easily and in a big scoring manner.

Greece, on the other hand, surprised everyone with qualifying to the quarter-finals of EURO 2012 after two disappointing results in first two rounds. Firstly, they drew against the hosts from Poland with a 1:1 score in a game where they received a goal in the first half-time and also were left to play with ten men after 44th minute, but bounced back and showed much better performance in the second half-time where they also had a penalty kick for a 2:1 lead, but finally had to be satisfied with a 1:1 draw only. In the second game, lousy start in first 6 minutes of the game against Czech Republic cost them a lot as they received two goals in six minutes and later on, were only able to get a 2:1 result. Finally, in their last game, they faced up against Russians knowing that only a victory keeps them in the game and knowing that it will be very hard to make it, looking at first two matches of both teams. Karagounis, team captain will be sidelined for this game as he picked up second yellow card in a game against Russia. However, Greece has never counted a lot on the individuals, but teamwork.
Odds on straight Germany win here are too low, there are tens of scenarios in which their victory in 90 minutes can’t be taken for granted and therefore, Greece +1.5 Asian Handicap look like a value in this game. Early goal for Germany shouldn’t be a scenario here as it’s simply knock out game and nobody starts to attack from the beginning in a such a game. If the Greeks know something, than that’s how to defend and as the game starts to pass and time to flow, neither of teams will be feeling too comfortably to attack with all their effort and to leave space at the back for the opponent.
