Villarreal vs Sociedad
Villarreal suffered 3:1 defeat in the first leg of 1/8 finals of Spanish Copa del Rey and the tea will now have very difficult job ahead of themselves, since they need to get a two goals victory at least in order to keep their chances. Players of Sociedad have entered the game much better and it was hard for the visiting side to get back into the match later on.
Sociedad took the lead in 17th minute with a goal from Willian Jose, while Vela doubled up the lead in 33rd minute. Oyarzabal wrote 3:0 in 72nd minute, while the visitors were actually the ones who had the ball more, however with the hosts having created more, especially once they took the lead. All the visitors could do is to reduce the deficit towards the end of the match with a goal from Trigueros in 77th minute. As for LaLiga, Villarreal managed to surprise Barcelona at home and take a point in a 1:1 draw during the weekend. They remained at fifth position, having just a point less than fourth and Champions League placed Atletico Madrid.
Home team continues to miss central defender Mateo Musacchio (12/0) due injury, as well as left winger Denis Cheryshev (8/0), forward Roberto Soldado (no appearance so far anyway), with further rotation probably expected.
Sociedad was surely a better side in the first leg, but the team would still happy to have fought out two goals victory margin, as they can now approach the second leg with a bit more relaxed approach and have really good chances to progress further. They are anyway doing very well recently on the road, having won four out of last five matches away from home in all competitions.
Their victory over Villarreal was fourth game in a row in official matches, recording previously three victories and a draw, while the team suffered 0:4 defeat in previous LaLiga game on Saturday evening at home against Sevilla. They were simply outplayed by a much more superior side, who looked way more mature and always knew what they wanted with the ball to their feet. Despite a defeat, Sociedad remained high at table, being at sixth position at the moment, just two points behind Champions League placed Atletico Madrid.
Central defender Raul Navas (12/0) is injured, as well as right full back Carlos Martinez (10/0). Central midfielder Markel Bergara (4/0) is also injured, while forward Carlos Vela (17/4) and striker Imanol Agirretexe (no performance so far) won’t be playing also.
With Villarreal already losing with two goals difference, there’s no doubt that the home team will need to attack here from the first minute and that’s something that should open up the game from the off and seal it with over 2.5 goals scored. Visitors surely will also be very threatening, probably on counter attacks.
