Sturm v Lokomotiv Moscow
Sturm failed to reach Champions League Group Stage and now they are playing Europa League. In fact, if the Austrians weren’t domestic league champions previous season hardly we could ever see them at Europa League group stage. Firstly they eliminated unconvincingly Videoton 4-3 on aggregate, then Georgian side Zestafoni 2-1 aggregate, but then finally lost to Bate Borisov 1-3 aggregate result. Since they lost at playoff round, they automatically got their group stage spot here. Not only they had many problems eliminating weaker teams like Georgian champions were, but they are also struggling in their domestic league having only 2-3-1 record so far, including lost round 2-4 loss against Admira. Not only that they are not in the best form, but also for today’s game their first goalkeeper choice Christian Gratzei is unavailable, just as Roman Kienast, Matthias Koch and Jurgen Saumel, who are all important players for Austrian side.
Lokomotiv Moscow, on the other side, are probably in their best form right now since the beginning of Russian Premier Liga. They eliminated Spartak Tranava 3-1 on aggregate in play off round, but not only that, but they are currently on a seven games row without losing a single game in domestic league. Having overall, nine games with no defeat they also have two wins in a row including last round win over probably the best team in Russia- Zenit 4-2. All four goals were scored in second half and Lokomotiv players are now coming to Sturm with a sky high confidence. Only important missing in their team is Torbinski.
Austrian football generally didn’t have any important result in recent years in European competitions. Weakened Sturm which isn’t in their best form cannot hope for a victory here against inform Lokomotiv Moscow.
