Euro U21 Qualifiers: Slovenia v Ukraine
Slovenia already started qualifying campaign with three games – all three played away from home. Firstly they won in Lithuania 1-0, then lost to Finland with the same score and just four days before they won at Malta 4:1. With strong teams in group like Sweden that already have 100% record out of two games and one of the better European youth system’s Ukraine, Slovenians already damaged their chances with a loss in Finland. Nejc Mevlja, important defender for Slovenian squad got red carded in game against Malta and will not play today.
Ukraine, on the other side, is starting their campaign with this game. Starting pretty late comparing to others, but thats because they played final stage of Euro 2011 this summer. They didn’t pass first stage, but at least they were there and showed some really big potential, just like all Ukrainian youth teams are showing for over a decade now. During August Ukrainians played preparational friendly tournament in their country winning against Israel 3-0 and drawing with Usbekistan 0-0. Generally, they have very stable defense for years in youth systems.
These two national teams have already met in last Euro qualifying round during 2009 and 2010, Slovenians were unable to find the net in both games losing in Ljubljana 0-2 and having a goalles draw in Kiev. There is quality difference between these two sides in favour of guests which certinly shouldn’t lose today.
