Chelsea vs Benfica
Apart from Premier League where they are trying to snatch into top four positions in the end of the season (they are currently five points below Arsenal and Newcastle being on fifth position), Champions League is the only competition in which Chelsea still has chances to get the title and make some positive results to please their fans. Obviously, the appointment of young Portuguese coach didn’t brought too many positive things to Chelsea and he had to step down, following Roberto Di Matteo taking the club as a caretaker manager. Since he arrived Chelsea is playing a bit better and making more than a bit better results. They managed to overcome Napoli lead from the first match in 1/8 finals of Champions League with a 4:1 win at home, extra time included. Didier Drogba, David Luiz and Raul Meireles all have minor injury worries but are available for selection in front of tonight’s match.
Benfica, on the other hand, is still in the race for domestic title being on currently on second position with one point less than Porto. Disregarding their title race, Benfica has/or had unique opportunity to enter semi-finals of Champions League following elimination of Zenit in 1/8 finals. Of course, the things didn’t go so well for them in the first match as they have lost by narrow 0:1 result although they were quite a competitive opponent in the first leg, if not the dominating side. Portuguese captain Luisao a major doubt with a injury for this match.
As the first match have ended 1:0 for the English side, there is nothing left for Benfica but to try to attack once again and see what happens. Their offensive part of the team didn’t work that well during the previous weeks, but with the most recent 2:1 win over Portuguese league rivals Braga, they will be surely entering this match with a dose of optimism. The Portuguese didn’t play the first game bad at all, they were attacking and overall, better side during the game. This should be very open game from the very beginning as the guests have nothing to lose, while Chelsea will surely be very dangerous from counter attacks too.
