Pro League: Mechelen vs Kortrijk
Mechelen seemed fairly tired and lost with the score of 3-2 away to Lokeren, losing valuable ground in the battle of the top six that will enter play offs. In the first half they had opportunities to score more goals and finish the game, but unfortunately they did not created all chances into goals. In the second part the fatigue from consecutive tough games were visible and they played more closed. Main and essential midfielder Alessandro Cordaro served his suspension and returns to main eleven, the same goes on for defender Boris Pandsa, while midfielder Seth De Witte will sit out due to cards. Main midfielder Kevin Geudens, useful defender Anthony Van Loo, and sometimes essential midfielder Bjarni Vidarsson are still out of action due to injuries.
Kortrijk is very close to qualify in the cup final after the victory away to Mons with the score of 1-2, in the first semifinal. The repeat game will be held on next Wednesday at home ground. It is clearly visible that Kortrijk now giving everything to win the cup, as their league performances are below mediocre and for the cup they are ok. Now they must get ahead, remain focused to the repeat game, and not to be overjoyed by the result of the first match. At the past they won the first match against Gent with the score of 5-1 but they have been thrown of the cup to the second game, so they must be careful. In their last league game, they had a really mediocre appearance to the 0-0 draw at home against Zulte Waregem. They were obviously tired from consecutive matches and should feel lucky that they did not lost the game, cause Zulte was better in general. For tonight’s game, main left-back Landry Mulemo is back to the main squad, while midfielder Brecht Capon and main stopper David Vandenbroeck are still out of action. Kortrijk coach is ready to rest some players for the Wednesday critical game.
Vital game for Mechelen, as they need to take all three points for the top six fight. Any other result than a home win will be destructive for them, as they are seven points away from 8th place, and only seven games left for regular period. Kortrijk have a better position to get into the play offs, but they are currently playing very mediocre, and they can get the european ticket through the cup, where they are already almost into the final.
