Pavlychenkova v King

This is a second round match of Australian Open 2012, whoever wins this tie will face in third round against winner of a Ivanovic vs Krajicek match.

Anastasia Pavlychenkova is currently ranked on 16th position on WTA list, but her beginning of the season wasn’t in tune with her rankings. Actually, she also had quite tough opponents to face as she lost to Kanepi in second round of Brisbane, Kanepi who later on won this tournament defeating Petkovic, Schiavone and Hantuchova after the Russian, all in two straight sets. However, before that match, she won in first round Hercog (6-1, 4-1 Hercog retired) and playing almost without any error. Still, next week she lost in first round of Sydney to Petkovic, but the German is on 10th position in the world and it’s no surprise. Finally, Pavlychenkova won in first round here over Zakopalova, who isn’t bad at all 7-6 6-1 and especially in second set it looked like Anastasia is finally getting into good old form.

Vania King is currently on 66th position and whole last season was with many ups and downs, she simply can’t continiously play good for a month or so. This season, she started in the same manner, with no significant wins. She had to play qualification of Brisbane where she struggled in last round beating Voegele in three, but after entering main draw she was eliminated in second round to Hantuchova in three, although she won Czink in first round. Next week, she played once again qualifications rounds in Sydney this time, winning in three over Rus and in two over Ormachea, but withdrawed to Urszula Radwanska in the final round of qualifications. Here in Melbourne, King won over well out of form Kateryna Bondarenko 7-6, 6-3. Bondarenko had less then 30% won on her second serve and it is no wonder that King managed to finish her in two.

These two players already met two times, both winning one match. For today, it simply looks like Pavlychenkova is starting to get into nice form and when she is in ok form players like King can’t do any harm to her.
