Viktor Troicki vs Matthias Bachinger

Second round match of BRD Nastase Tiriac Bucharest Open 2012, where Viktor Troicki from Serbia will meet German Matthias Bachinger, one of the last players that got direct entry in the tournament due to his rankings. However wins in this match will be playing against the winner of the match against Daniel Brands and Jurgen Zopp.

Viktor Troicki simply can’t find his regular form from 2010 and 2011 and this is starting to be a really huge pressure for him. He was world 12 just months ago and he now finds himself at 30th place. He can’t start winning in a row and this is the biggest problem for him. But it looks like moving to “smaller” tournament was a good idea for him as he has a chance to play against some weaker opponents and to regain his confidence. This tournament is perfect for that as there are no too many big players and his main opponents for the title would be: Seppi, Fognini and Simon. Previous week Troicki played in Monte Carlo and lost in second round to Murray, previously winning home player Lisnard in two straight sets. Viktor looked clueless in first set against Murray, but was way better in second as he lost 6-1 6-3. It really looked like Viktor only needs few easier opponents to regain the confidence and the other things would come along with wins.

Although Matthias Bachinger had quite a decent 2008 and 2009 seasons (for a 19-20 years old player), he now starts to look more and more like a typical challenger player who can play only at some smaller ATP tournaments, like this one is. The German is switching between challengers and ATP tournaments with no bigger luck at any of them. His biggest results would be second rounds of ATP tournaments where he lost to Haase and Troicki, both on hard. At clay court, he also didn’t have too much luck this year as he lost to Paire in second round of Casablanca and in qualifying round of Monte Carlo to Rufin, another challenger player.

Only match they played against each other was back in January when Troicki won confidently with 7-6 6-1 and similar score is expected today. Viktor finally understood he can play better tennis in second set against Murray and further improvement is expected starting from this game.
