Feliciano Lopez vs Flavio Cipolla
Feliciano Lopez had a great clay court season last season and he is still to show his good clay court tennis this season. He had no good results this season except the fourth round of Australian Open where he lost to Nadal in three. However, clay court season have started and it’s expected that Feliciano also starts getting much better results too. He made to semi-finals of Houston ATP tournament where he lost to Isner and lost to Wawrinka in first round of Masters in Monte Carlo, but the real season is only about to start for him. The Spaniards serve worked quite well during the season and he should be very motivated to get some positive results in his country at the tournament where he reached quarter-finals last season.
Flavio Cipolla, on the other side, is typical challenger player with a few ATP tournaments played here and there. He is currently ranked at number 70th in the world and that’s a position that gives him a few direct entries to ATP tournaments, but this is something that will change quite soon as he is simply not ATP material. Italian had no success playing on hard at the beginning of the season, while he reached semi-finals of the Casablanca ATP tournament two weeks before. It’s a success for him, but still Casablanca is one of the weakest tournaments on clay during the year. He was defeated by Pablo Andujar in the semi-final match in two sets, Andujar that later on have won the tournament. Cipolla have won over Lorenzi in the first round here, but Lopez seems to be simply too much for him.
