Kevin Anderson vs Horacio Zeballos

Kevin Anderson survived a five sets thriller in the first round against Rui Machado defeating him 11-9 in the fifth set. No matter how dramatic it was, somehow it always looked that Anderson is the better player and that he has control under the fifth set. Anyway, the South African didn’t have impressive result at clay this season, but every time he lost, it was against  reputable clay court player. He started his clay season in Houston reaching quarter finals and losing to Monaco. Later on he lost to Bellucii in the first round of Monte Carlo, but reached third round of Barcelona losing to Verdasco. Finally, just before Rolland Garros he played in Madrid and Rome, losing to Berdych and Ferrero. Clay is not his favorite surface, but he still shows some good tennis there from time to time and isn’t losing to much weaker players than he is.

Horacio Zeballos, on the other side, is struggling to reach top 100 and to get a position that will secure him entering to ATP level tournaments, but it isn’t going that smooth for him. It could be said that he is very good player for Challenger level and that he has way better season this year than the previous one, but that’s still not good enough for the ATP level. As soon as tournaments in South America started, he started his clay court season too. His best results this season is the finals of Barranquilla challenger where he lost to Falla and winning Prague challenger one month ago, defeating Klizan in three sets. He had to play qualifying round for Rolland Garros, winning all three opponents in three hard fought sets. Finally, he won in the first round against Prodon in four.

There is a huge difference between these two players, although Anderson doesn’t prefer this surface at all, he is still not losing against much weaker players like Horacio is at this moment. South African’s serve should be too much for Horacio who simply shouldn’t be able to find a cure for that, while he allows way too many break chances at every match he plays.
