Filip Krajinovic vs Nicolas Devilder

Filip Krajinovic was a great hope of World’s tennis back in 2008, 2009 and so, but the injuries decreased/postponed his hopes. Anyway, he still remains as one of the younger player who can shine in future and this is exactly what I still expect from him. Yes, he was in top 250 when he was much younger, but the injuries didn’t help him at all – and this is the reason why he played only one match back in 2011. Having in mind such a problematic injury in past, there is no use of mentioning his results before he returned to tennis this season. It was in Barletta Challenger, where he won two matches in qualifying rounds losing to Fognini in three sets – already a very good result for someone who didn’t play tennis regularly in previous two years (and already taking a set against a top50 player – a result that is very questionable if his today’s opponent is capable of). Anyway, he continued with Rome Challenger where he won over Arnobaldi and Mannarino, losing to Huta Galung. He also received a wild card one week later for Barcelona tournament, where he won over Cervantes, but lost to David Ferrer in second round. He has to play qualifying round here at French Open, winning against Lojda, Reynolds and Brands.
Nicolas Devilder is someone who is well past his best results and in combination of getting older and injuries, it’s hard to expect some bigger improvements in his game in next months and especially, next years. Injuries were the reason why he missed almost half of the season last year, not playing from April till October. Anyway, his favorite surface is clay and he plays for the most of the season at the slowest surface, reasonably. However, he had no major success this season apart from reaching the finals of Challenger in Casablanca, where he lost to Bedene. Apart from that result, he has no positive results at all, as he couldn’t reach the main draw of three ATP tournaments after Challenger in Casablanca, just like he didn’t reach main draws of two Challengers in recent weeks, failing to win against Guez, Mecir and Crivoi – players that are well off the ATP level for sure. Elias, Ilhan and Jones were his victims on a way of earning the main draw spot at French Open.
Krajinovic already showed some really nice tennis this season, he already has wins over much better players than Devilder is, while it’s obvious that the Serbian had much tougher draw in the qualifying rounds. Furthermore, Krajinovic knows the style of Devilder’s tennis, as the Frenchman was playing for Tennis club Crvena zvezda for several season. Young Serbian is on his way of making the path to World’s best players and I highly doubt that Devilder will be capable of getting more than a set here.
