Giraldo vs Harrison

No doubt Santiago Giraldo belongs to the Olympic tournament with his record, but there is no doubt that he doesn’t stand any chance of getting any positive result out of so highly ranked tournament being played on grass. Like any other South American, he is hardly making good results at hard court, while faster surface like grass is something he doesn’t like to play at.

Ryan Harrison still needs a lot to improve in order to be highly competitive against the very best players in the World, but even so, he is very strong favorite against typical clay court player from Colombia. His best result this season was semifinals of San Jose tournament back in February (also semifinals of Eastbourne and Newport) and he struggled a lot on clay, however once the grass court season started – he started playing better from the first game.



As said, better results came with the grass court season as he reached semifinals of Eastbourne and Newport, while Djokovic was too much for him in the second round of Wimbledon. The American also switched after Wimbledon to another continent, but at least he switched in order to continue playing on the same surface and he did good – another semifinal in Newport as he won over Bemelmans and Levine, while Becker retired to him near the end of the match. Big server Isner was too much as he lost to him in two sets.



Giraldo switched to South America after Wimbledon to play Challenger there in Bogota. This shows how interested he is for the Olympics being played on grass. Still, he lost to Falla and Hernych on clay recently, so that shows that he is not in a very good form even at his favorite surface.
