Haase vs Ferrero
Robin Haase was struggling a lot at hard court tournaments in order to find his best form. That part of the season ended and he stayed at only three victories at hard, against Matosevic in USA and two wins at hard court indoor tournament in Croatia (the one with pretty weak line up). Anyway, although it was quite unexpected, he played much better at clay tournaments starting with Monte Carlo where he won over Belluci and Fognini, while Monaco retired to him in third set. Finally, he lost to Djokovic in quarterfinals in two sets. Later on, he played in Barcelona where Bubka retired to him (although the Dutch was very near to victory), before Robin lost to Giraldo in two easy sets. After Barcelona, he played in Estoril, but lost to Wawrinka in three sets in the quarterfinals as he previously won over Cervantes and Bolleli. Finally, he lost in first round of Rome losing once again to Wawrinka, after he progressed from the qualifying round where he was better than Mallise and Stakhovsky.
Juan Carlos Ferrero, on the other side, is fighting with many injury problems trying to put them behind and get some more wins at the very late stage of his career. The Spaniard didn’t have single ATP victory this season till the very last week when he reached third round of Rome Masters losing to Federer in three sets. He is still ex number one in the World and surely has ability to play on the great level, but all he needs is to avoid injuries. Anyway, as said he had terrible start of the season as he struggled to break the mental barrier. Most of these losses were close, especially at clay tournaments where he was losing to names like Wawrinka, Nishikori, Andreev and Mayer. Finally, he won in Rome over Anderson and Monfils, but lost in third round to Federer in three sets. This is something what he needed the most and his tennis can now only face further improvements.
