Watney vs Woods

Whilst I am aware that for many Golf is not a sport which you can watch and enjoy - it seems quite a specialist interest - it is definitely a sport where value can be had in terms of betting.

 

The bet I propose allows us to back four players to win, with the insurance policy of bets on three of them merely placing in the top ten. This way, whilst being able to follow the tournament throughout the weekend - we do not require an outright win to make a profit, although this would obviously be the most profitable outcome.

 

For this bet I am selecting two golfers who are both in form and have good track record - Jason Dufner and Nick Watney - in addition to an up-and-coming hotshot who over the past two seasons has really made himself at home on the tour with a couple of wins and a near perfect-record in terms of cuts made - Webb Simpson - as well as Tiger Woods.

 

Dufner won his most recent tournament and has not failed to finish in the top 25 in his last five. The 35-year-old also came 6th in last year's tournament.

 

Watney has only failed to make the cut once this season and came an impressive 8th in his most recent outing. He came tied for 4th here last year and was in the top 20 the year before.

 

Webb Simpson has recorded consecutively better and better finishes over his past three tournaments, culminating in a 4th place finish in the Wells Fargo Championship last week. He would have won the tournament but for a poor final round. Although he does not have form at TPC Sawgrass, Simpson is more than capable of mixing it with the world's best and at a good price he should not be ruled out.

 

Final pick is Tiger Woods. Whilst this is a wildcard, Woods missed the cut in his last tournament and withdrew through injury the past two times this tournament has been held, Tiger has course form having won the US Amateur Championship here and also winning this tournament in 2001.

 

A varied staking plan which should hopefully allow for a bit of enjoyment in the tournament plus a bit of profit too.

 

I must stress that these prices will be likely to change in-running but I think they are good value as they are, so get in early. The tournament begins on Thursday 10 May around 12:00 GMT.
