Birmingham vs Leeds

Birmingham City, after a pretty poor start of the season, started playing well and are now on a five wins in a row, including three wins in Championship and two in Europa League group stage. Their poor start of the season was probably influenced by their playing at European stage as they didn’t use to play in Europe, just as to play in English second football tier. Anyway, in last four weeks they finally started playing some nice football and won over Maribor and Club Brugge, both away from home in Europa League. But also won against Nottingham Forest 3:1 away, Leicester City 2:0 at home and Bristol City 2:1 once again away from home in domestic league. Birmingham is on a 13th position, but with three games less then others (due Europa League duties), so their current position cannot be compared with other teams in league. However, they still need to prove and continue playing good football in order to reach play-off spots in Championship. Curtis Davies will probably recover from a leg injury for today’s match, meanwhile Pablo Ibanez (also defender) is unlikely to be rushed back into action after suffering concussion last week.

 

Leeds United, on the other side, are on 5th position with four points more then their today’s opponents, but also with two games more then them. Their good position is earned by very good performances at home, while away from home they have one of the poorest records between first ten positionated teams. 2-2-2 record away from home is nothing special and their biggest problem should be their shaky defense as they received 18 goals already, including 12 goals in six games away from home. Winger Robert Snodgrass is again a doubt with the back injury, while goalkeeper Andy Lonergan is still out with a broken finger. Missing first goalkeeper and already shaky defense doesn’t promise too much ahead of in-form and surely quality opponent.

 

Since 1982, Leeds snatched only two draws when visiting Birmingham and today should be no difference. Odds are too good to be missed as we really can’t see Leeds getting all three points today.
