Carolina has beaten one team at home and that was the 49ers who were struggling early season, they have been soundly beaten in every other match, i could bang on about stats here but basically they rank near worst among points conceded, they are 27th out of 32 against the run and face the awesome running attack of Ray Rice and Mc Gahee, they are ok against the pass but they are facing Ravens QB Flacco who has the highest QB rating of any QB in the NFL in the last 4 games, he just keeps hitting receivers and avoiding interceptions.
On offense it is even more depressing for them, they are dead last in yards, points (just 11.6 avg a game ) and passing yards and they are coming up against a mean defense in the Ravens led by Ray Lewis. They got run over a bit in Atlanta last week and will be out to prove they have a good defense this week.
Now on to what makes this a max stake for me, Carolina who have scored a league-low nine touchdowns , have been ravaged by injuries at quarterback, running back and on the offensive line.
With Matt Moore (shoulder) done for the season and rookie Jimmy Clausen recovering from a concussion, Fox the coach has elected to start journeyman Brian St. Pierre at quarterback. The 30-year-old St. Pierre, signed to the practice squad last week, has thrown five passes in eight years in the NFL!! He won't be handing off to star running back DeAngelo Williams, who was placed on injured reserve this week with a foot sprain. With backup Jonathan Stewart (concussion) and third-stringer Tyrell Sutton (ankle) also out, Mike Goodson will make his second straight start.
Left guard Travelle Wharton will miss this game with turf toe, while wide receiver Brandon LaFell is out with a concussion. The Panthers already lost right tackle Jeff Otah to a season-ending knee injury.
Now these are a lot of injuries to contend with and surely carolina wont be able to cope. i tipped over 40 points in the Dolphins/Bears game on thurs night and that was a mistake because they were playin a 3rd string QB who barely knew the offense and the Bears just kept blitzing and pressuring him and i believe the Ravens will do the same. They may try and just run the ball then but i believe the Ravens will just pack the box making it near impossible for a running back to get room to run. Its going to be very hard for a QB who has just joined a team who rank dead last in passing to be able to go on the field and lead a team to victory, if he does then fair play to him and the Panthers but my money will be down on a Ravens victory by at least 10 points.
