Darts Tournament - Newton v Baxter
This afternoon sees the 2nd round of the 'Players Championship' from Purfleet with all the usually suspects taking part. 4 games this afternoon and 4 this evening. The only game that kind of leaps out to me from the afternoon session with what appears to be value is the Newton Vs Baxter match.
Wes Newton won his opening match yesterday against Peter Wright with relative ease 6-2 was the score and Newton hit 4 180s along the way to a 3dart average of a very respectable 97.59, Over the 8 legs they played Newton held his throw on all 4 occasions and broke Wright on 2. All in all it was a very solid performance for Wes Newton and he will be confident of doing well if he produces this kind of form against Ronnie Baxter.
Ronnie Baxter won his 1st round match last night against Mark Dudbridge 6-5. Dudbridge actually had a dart to win the match but missed and Baxter stepped in a managed to get himself over the line. In truth the match wasnt great and the only real highlight was 8 perfect darts from Baxter before he missed double 12 for a dream 9 dart finish. The play from both players was scrappy and neither player managed to grab the game by the scuff of its neck. There were 6 breaks of throw in the match (3 each obviously) and neither player looked great on throw. Baxter managed a 3dart average of a decent 92.72 but throw just a single 180 in the match.
Baxter is probably on paper the better player and for that reason i can understand why he is the favourite to win the match, however if you judge both players on last nights efforts then Newton has a very good chance of getting something from the match, Baxter was broke 3 times Newton wasnt broken, Newton scored more 180s over less legs, So stats wise you have to say Newton shouldn't be 2.62 to win this match, So for that reason im happy to back him at over inflated odds but for small stakes.
