The Finals match of this Weekends Divisional Play Offs see’s us looking at San Diego as the Chargers who have been winning for so long now I’ve forgotten how many they have won facing off against the Jets who apparently reckon the rest of the league should give them the Title now, Interesting match here and although I have chosen the Chargers to take out the Conference and title it will be far from easy in their first up match against the Jets today.

The Chargers started badly but have since reeled off win after win and are being led greatly by Phillip Rivers, You have to hand it to the Chargers in many ways as they have pretty much gone under the radar to this point in their season, at times they have struggled but have come through it and won their matches, they have perhaps one of the best balanced attacks and defences in the league and are finally starting to show it, but really Rivers has led well and time and time again has come up with a big play to get the Chargers over the line, their receiving core group have been out standing also and although once again LT has been far from his best the Chargers seem not to care to much about it and have just kept on winning which is always a good sign heading into these types of games, although the break might not be, However I’ll stick with them as I really think that Rivers believes in himself at present which is what the Chargers need more than anything else entering this match.

The Jets beat the Bengals last week and there were no real surprises in that match at all apart from one, The Jets again looked great on the rush but did not move the ball as freely as they did against the Bengals defence as they did the week before, But for me the one thing that did surprise me was Mark Sanchez and his throws when forced to make them, he made some big throws at crucial times in that game and that along with the Jets winning games should have them flying entering this match today, their O Line is so strong that Sanchez at times could get a lounge chair and have a drink before getting up to attempt a pass and then if no one is open he could sit back down and wait until someone is open, he has so much time there it is unbelievable, add in all the other factors for them and they should not be afraid of any one right now and I bet they aren’t daunted in facing up to the Chargers today either.

The Jets and the Chargers have met 5 times between 200 and now with the Jets winning 3 of those 5 matches, the Jets are also 4-1 ATS in those matches, 4 of those matches have been played in San Diego with the Jets winning 3 of those matches and being 3-1 ATS in those matches, the Chargers won the last meeting here last season 29-48.

The Chargers rank 7th in home scoring on seasons averages scoring 27ppg while allowing 21ppg, The Jets on seasons averages score 23 ppg and rank 9th in the league at scoring on the road, they also rank 1st in road defence on average allowing only 15ppg, The Chargers home rushing is awful and is ranked near the bottom in all categories, their home rush defence isn’t that bad and is ranked 14th for home rush defence allowing 100ypg and 13th in yardage per carry at 3.97 per play, the Jets meanwhile rank 1st in road rushing attepts and 1st in rushing yards gained at a mammoth 188 per game, But their rush defence allows on seasons averages 100 yards per game, Passing wise and the Chargers rank 17th in attempts, 13th in completions, 11th in completion percentage, 3rd in passing yards at home with 293 and 1st at yards per passing play which is a mammoth 13 yards per passing play, Their defence however ranks 22nd overall at home in stopping the pass and they allow 225 yards per game through the air, However they rank 10th in the league at yards per passing play on average giving up 10 yards per completed pass, The Jets on the other side rank 32nd in pass attempts, 32nd in completions, 29th in percentage, 31st in passing yardage but 5th in road passing yards per catch at almost 12 yards per passing play completed, In passing defence though the Jets rank 1st in passing yards per game allowing on seasons average 176 per game and 4th in yards allowed per pass at 9 yards per passing play completed, Sack wise and the Chargers give up almost 2 per game while the Jets defence gains 2 per game, On the other side the Jets allow 2 per match while the Chargers make two sacks per match, Penalty yards and San Diego average 5 penalties per match and give up 40 penalty yards per match, while the Jets average 5 penalties per game also with an average of 50 yards given up because of that, Everything else is fairly similar so I won’t go into it.

The Jets have a great record against the Chargers and so I think this game could be the closest and most intense of this weekend matches, I fancy the Chargers behind Rivers to find a way to win this game but ti should be close, what I am expecting is for the Chargers to be leading late and for the Jets to have to go long to snatch this game away and in that sense I think the Chargers will get a pick and wrap the game up…Good Game in prospect but I fancy the Chargers to win and for the total to go well north of where it is set….Good Luck.
