Swiss NLB Hockey - Biel v HC Sierre
(Switzerland - NLB)
Hard times for Basel, as the team is last in NLB with only 18 points. I must admit that, at the beggining of the season, I was thinking that Baby Lions will will be the team that will struggle more after 20-22 games played, but it seems that Sharks, at this moment, can't cope with the others in their fight for a decent place at the begging of the regular season. They are only six of twentytwo, having, by far, the weakest attack in the league, with only 60 goals scored and one of the most hesitant defences, Sharks conceiding 96 goals so far. They're on a six games without a win and are coming after a crushing result in Lausanne, 3:9.
Sierre-Anniviers is among the teams that impressed me in this season, along with Visp and Olten. They are strong and they're having some players that, untill now, have made the difference on the ice and brought Sierre on the third spot in NLB. Derek Cormier (17+31), Sierre's captain and also topscorer, is leading this team in an imperial style this season, being helped by his teammates with high percentages in NLB, such as Lee Jinman (11+20), Bernie Sigrist (6+16), Federico Lardi (8+11), Ronny Keller (8+10), Cedric Métrailler (9+7) and many more.
Sierre have had an awful time one month ago, when they had seven straight games without a win, but the things changed now, Sierre winning six games from their last seven encounters, last one 5:4 against La Chaux-de-Fonds (Derek Cormier x2, Federico Lardi x2 and Sandro Gartmann).
Lee Jinman, Sierre's second scorer, is still missing with an injury. The news that he will miss for a long period was a dager in Sierre's hart, but the owners managed to sign Jamie Wright and Lee Jinman's abscence is now history, having in mind that Jamie is averaging more than two points per game.
Also, Sharks will be without Mike Marolf (5+6), Lüthi (4+5), Tuominen (5+5) and Malgin (0+1).
There is a huge difference between this teams and I'm pretty sure that the odds will drop untill the horn will sound. Sierre is on a hot streak and is coming after good games in wich they met (and won) teams more powerfull than Sharks, such as Olten, Visp, Ajoie or La Chaux-de-Fonds. I rate Sierre-Anniviers as being clear favourites here and I expect a clear win.
