This a bit of a dip into the unknown for me, but with not much i fancy today decided to have a read up of some lower league Scottish Cup matches trying to unearth a giant killing and ive decided Wick Academy Vs Brechin City could be the match. So why this match??

Brechin City are going well in Scottish Division 2 this season, 3rd in the table at the moment but that is largely due to an impressive home record of 6 wins and 1 draw from 7 games, Away from home things aren't so good, just 1 win from 8 matches. Although Brechin are 6 unbeaten they have in fact draw 5 on the bounce so are also in effect 5 without a win too. Brechin travelled up yesterday evening ahead of this game as its a long journey so have tried to get there preparation spot on ahead of this tricky tie. (its a 5 hour drive). Not many sides would have fancied this trip before the draw.

Wick Academy are a highland League side and are currently sitting mid table in the league, they are regarding this as there biggest match in there 116 year history and are bang up for this today with a 4th round tie against an SPL side a possibility.

Lets look at some reasons why Wick might cause an upset here today.

1. Brechins away form its impressive this season.

2. Wick Academy play at the most northerly ground in Britain (its further north than Moscow) So it going to be very cold!!!

3. Brechin have travelled up the night before (not something that happens everyday in scottish football)

4. Wick Academys pitch has a 9ft slope and an across field slope too, Something Wick will be used too, Brechin might not be.

Of course on paper Brechin should be more than good enough to see off a Highland league club by this isnt being played on paper its being played on a slope in very cold conditions. With a slope in mand i also think about it being a match of 2 halves and will be having a go at some HT/FT betting too, Only for small stakes mind as this really is more of a hutch than anything, but If we are to see a Scottish Cup shock it could well be at this match.
