Kontinental League - Sibir v Salavat
Sibir ranks 19th in the KHL standings with only 30 points after 26 games played and I say ONLY 30 points because there are teams that already made a step above that 60 points barrier after half of a regular season played.
Sibir came back in Novosibirsk after four games played on road in wich they won only one, 6:1 in Khabarovsk against Amur. The other games ended with defeats against Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, 0:7, MVD 1:5 and Amur, 2:3. Sibir started their three consecutive home games with a victory, 5:3 against Barys, in a game in wich they didn't impressed, but took advantage of penalty minutes, scoring three goals by Egor Milovzorov, Leos Cermak and Denis Tyurin on PP. Also, Klyuchnikov had a good game, 89.3% percentage and 25 saves.
On the other hand, Salavat is having a terrific time, winning 12 in a row, scoring 56 goals and conceiding only 23. They're first in the stands with 62 points, one more than SKA but with a game in hand. There is no doubt that Vyacheslav Bykov made a hockey machine here in UFA, having in his team players as Aleksandr Eremenko, Dmitri Kalinin, captain Vitaly Proshkin, Ilya Gorokhov, Ilya Zubov, Patrick Thoresen that impresses after his arrival from Swiss side Lugano, Aleksandr Radulov, enigmatic Sergei Zinoviev, Aleksandr Perezhogin, Viktor Kozlov or Andrei Taratukhin.
Salavat ended their five games at home in an imperial style, five wins out of five and won their first match on road after approximately one month, 3:0 against Metallurg Novokuznetsk. A nice performance by Bykov's players who won this game by Konstantin Koltsov, Aleksander Radulov and Sergei Zinoviev's goals. Again, Eremenko had a solid game, saving 20 shots out of 20.
At this moment, Salavat is on a hot streak and their morale is sky high. They are averaging 40 shots on goal per game, highest percentage in the league, scoring lost of goals and defending their advantage well. This two teams met each other couple of months ago, when Sibir won in UFA, 4:3. I think this thing will change today, Salavat having enough what it takes to win today.
