Darts Tournament - Anderson v Anderson
Last night we saw the final round of matches from groups A-D and tonight we see the final round of matches from groups E-H, And both nights are a mirror image of each other, 8 games being played of which the first 2 matches are in effect dead rubbers and the other 6 important qualifying matches, Its exactly how last night went. While it isnt always wise to get involved in 'dead runners' if you look at the 2 from last night we see that both players who had already qualified for the next stage (Taylor and King) were both beaten by players who were already out of the tournament, Now whether this is because both Taylor and King weren't overly interested having already qualified or the 2 players who were already out (Van Der Voort and Fitton) upped there games for pride and pride along is anybodys guess, What is clear though is that in darts its very rare you get to play in a match that has nothing at stake (except for final group positions) and for that reason it motivation could be difficult for either or both players. Now tonights 'dead rubbers' are between Jenkins and Lewis and secondly Anderson and Stompe. I wont be getting involved in the Jenkins Vs Lewis match as Jenkins might still have some motivation as im sure he will be hoping to avoid Wade in the next round. I will play the Anderson Vs Stompe match though for small stakes.
Anderson Vs Stompe
As i said above this is game 2 tonight and a 'dead rubber' Anderson in through and Stompe is out, Anderson should finish top of the group, unless of course he is soundly beaten and the other group match has a big winner, But nevertheless Anderson wont be overly worried if he does finish 2nd in the group as he next round opponent could be anyone of Waites, Whitlock or Hankey who are all much of a much so its not as if Anderson is trying to avoid a Taylor or Barney etc. When people talk about Anderson it is always felt that he is at his most suspect over the short distances (tonight is best of 9 legs) so it has been something of a surprise just how easy he has won his opening 2 matches, 5-2 Vs McDine and 5-2 Vs Beaton. Ignoring tonights match result Anderson should go from strength to strength in this tournament, But it wouldnt surprise me to see an unmotivated Anderson turn in a lacklustered performance (he is allowed 1).
Stompe is extremely unlucky to be out of the tournament after 2 matches, In his opener he was beaten by Beaton 5-2 despite throwing a 97.06 3dart average and in his 5-4 defeat against McDine (all legs went with throw) He had several darts to break and 1 for the match but missed and despite hitting an amazing 3dart are of 103.44 lost and is now heading home after this match, Still it does should that he is still in pretty good nick, And could run Anderson close tonight.
Stompe to continue the pattern of last night and win against a player who is already looking ahead to the next round is priced at 3.25 for the win and to me that offers some decent value for small stakes.
