Aintree - Race 4 v Race Winner

My 2nd bet today goes in the 3.40 at Thirsk.

This is a class 4 handicap, run over 1 1/2 Miles.

Another competitive looking handicap, with 15 runners declared.

In contrast to the previous race, there doesn't appear to be too much early pace on here.

1 or 2 of these have gone from the front in the past, but are by no means confirmed front runners.

There are plenty of hold up performers and horses that like to sit off the pace in this race.

However, there could well be 1 possible exception.

The horse I will be backing here is number 13 UMVERTI.

Umverti is a horse that does usually go from the front, and might just be able to get a soft lead here today.

As we have mentioned many times before, riding tactics can change.

It could be that something decides they will have a change and go from the front today.

Clearly we can't legislate for that happening.

We can only go with what we see.

It could just be that Umverti can get a soft lead here.

If things pan out that way, he could be tough to peg back.

Umverti has won 4 times in his career, over varying trips.

He has won over 7 furlongs, 1 1/4 miles ( X2 ) and also over todays 1 1/2 mile trip.

He is 1 from 1 over todays trip.

He has won 2 of his last 3 starts, making all both times.

We can probably ignore his latest effort.

That came in an amateur riders race, which alwyas have to treated with caution.

He Was also badly drawn that day, which wouldn't have helped him either.

The ground at Thirsk today looks like being on the soft side, which won't be a problem for this horse.

The ground was very soft when he made all to win at Pontefract 2 starts back.

Umverti is up in the weights and up in grade here today, so strictly on the book, he will need to improve.

However, with a usually competent front running jockey on board, it could just be he gets things run to suit.

If he can get his own way out infront and dictate things, then he could be hard to catch.

Clearly it isn't guaranteed that he will get his own way out infront, but at the prices available this morning, it is worth chancing.
