Aintree - Race 3 v Race Winner
This is a class 3 handicap run over 1 1/4 Miles.
The horse I will be backing here is number 12 JEER.
This horse is now trained by Mick Easterby and will be ridden today by Dale Gibson.
The horse was formerly trained by Ed Dunlop, for whom he had some excellent form.
This race looks like being run at a good pace, with 3 or 4 that like to get on with things.
Distant Memories, Ella and Society Venue are all likely to want to get on with things here today.
With Granston and Legislate also likely to want to be up with the pace, a good strong gallop looks on the cards.
That could well suit something held up off the pace.
Jeer fits the bill.
The horse has won twice in his career, both over this trip on decent ground.
One of those wins actually came here at Ripon.
The fact the horse is a course and distance winner is always a plus.
The 2nd of his wins came at Newmarket in a class 3 handicap similar to todays.
He won that day from a rating of 85.
He runs here today from a rating of just 70.
If the horse can put his best foot forward, he is now ridiculously well handicapped.
He is now 15 lbs lower than for his last win, which came last year at Newmarket in a similar race to this today.
Since joining the Mick Easterby yard, the horse has run 5 times.
He would clearly have needed his first run of the year after a long break.
We can forgive that poor effort.
Of his other 4 runs, 2 have come on unsuitably soft ground, so again, they can probably be ignored.
His other 2 efforts haven't been too bad, and he has shown some promise.
It could just be, that with conditions in his favour, a return to form isn't too far away.
Jeer has plenty going for him today and could go well at what looks a big price.
Trip, track and ground will all be ideal for the horse today.
He is a previous course and distance winner, which is always a plus.
The horse is now dangerously well handicapped, having won a similar race last year from a rating of 85.
He is racing today from a rating of just 70.
Jeer likes to come from off the pace in a strongly run race.
With plenty of pace looking likely here, he should also have the race run to suit.
Although clearly not the most consistent of animals, he does look to have plenty going for him here today.
