Athletics - Special bets v Special bets
I must admit ive loved coming home from work to watch the 'World Championship' Athletics from Berlin this week and even pulled in a few little winners, it has helped that enough short priced favourites have been turned over in the last few days too.
Im the 1st to admit my knowledge of Athletics isnt great but im happy to watch events and do my homework hoping that i can unearth a little gem or 2 along the way. 1 bet that does interest me today is the womens High jump which has its finals tonight. 12 competitors have made it through the qualifiers and tonights final should be interesting hopefully. The 12 entrants are as follows:
Blanka Vlasic (CRO)
Ariane Friedrich (GER)
Anna Chicherova (RUS)
Ruth Beitia (ESP)
Antonietta Di Martino (ITA)
Chaunte Howard (USA)
Emma Green (SWE)
Yelena Slesarenko (RUS)
Amy Acuff (USA)
Svetlana Shkolina (RUS)
Meike Kroger (GER)
Melanie Melfort (FRA)
Of the 12 'jumpers' 9 made the qualifying height of 1.95m and 3 cleared 1.92m them 3 were:
Svetlana Shkolina (RUS)
Meike Kroger (GER)
Melanie Melfort (FRA)
Of these 3 i would suggest that only Shkolina might jump 1.95m or higher but none of them are expect to be good enough to manage a podium finish.
Of the other 9, you cannot really argue against Vlasic and Friedrich finishing 1st and 2nd in either order, they both appear to be 4 or 5cm better than the rest of the field and could well jump around 2.05m this evening.
So ive decided to see if i can find who will finish on the Podium along side these 2 girls and will attempt to wittle down the other 7 competitors. I think 1.99m or 2m could well be enough to finish top 3 here.
Acuff is a steady jumper but i dont think she is capable of hitting anything above 1.95m tonight.
Green is another steady jumper who jumped well in qualifying but id be suprised to see her clear anything over 1.96m this evening.
Howard is well worth considering but will need to jump at her very best to clear 2m here this evening.
Di Martino is a capable jumper but blows hot and cold and could jump anything from 1.93m to 2.03m tonight but is too risky at a short price to include.
Beitia is a worthy 4th favourite for the high jump and a capable 1.99m-2m jumper but my concern would be that she may have to jump beyond her 'zone' to compete with the top 3 in this event tonight.
This leaves me with 2 to pick from...both Russians
Chicherova is more than capable of jumping 2.02m this evening and if either of the top 2 flop could well jump herself into silver this evening, i will include her as my 'saver' this evening.
Slesarenko struggled in qualifying here, twice failing at 1.92m and twice at 1.95m, If we can take any positives from that we could say she jumped well under pressure!! Back in 2004 she jumped 2.06m but i doubt she will hit them heights tonight, in 2008 and 2007 she jumped 2.02 and if she is relaxed tonight may just manage that again. At 11.0 for a podium finish she has the potential to be overpriced here this evening.
4pts Slesarenko podium finish @11.0 with William Hill
4pts Chicherova podium finish @2.25 with William Hill
