Aintree - Race 3 v Race Winner

The Sussex Stakes at Goodwood has been the highlight of the meeting for me for many years now, and this years renewal is no exception. I am having a very big bet on the irish trained and ridden Rip Van Winkle in the race as I beleive he has the best form on offer. 4th behind this season's wonderhorse Sea the stars in the 2000 guineas in May, he filled the same position in the Derby, behind the same horse in June. He then arguably put up his best performance in this months Coral Eclipse, where he ran Sea the stars to just a length.

Today sees him back over a mile and i think he really only has to beat the filly Ghanaati. This daughter of Giants Causeway has held all above herself this year winning the 1000 guineas before running away with the coronation stakes at Ascot. This has all been done against her own sex and I reckon that my tip will just be too strong for her today.

As always it is interesting to note what price Ladbrokes are offering on the O'brien horse, and the fact they they are shortest about him speaks volumes.
