As we start to get into the business end of the football season i just help but think this bet is overpriced. 7/1 on Hartlepool to be relegated might at first glance look unlikely and the price does suggest that i suppose, But lets look a little deeper here. Hartlepool currently sit in 15th spot, thats 6 places above the drop zone but the gap to the 4th bottom side Yeovil is just 4 points and Hartlepool have played 1,2 and im some cases 3 more matches that teams below themselves. Below is a basic league table for the bottom 10 sides, everyside above Hartlepool is safe for another season.

18th Crewe 38-42

19th Northampton 36-41

20th Swindon 38-41

21st Yeovil 37-39

I think its safe to asume that Hereford and Cheltenham are probably going to get relegated and Brighton will do well to get out of trouble, So it looks like its going to be 1 from the other 7 for the drop.

Hartlepool are on a run of 4 straight defeats and losing a 2-0 lead on saturday will have been a big blow to them. Of there remaining 7 matches they face 4 tricky away games at Southend, Crewe, Yeovil, and Bristol Rovers with home ties against Hereford Scunthorpe and Leeds. In there they have 3 matches against sides below them which will be huge games. Its teams other fixtures that look interesting too, In midweek Carlisle entertain Hereford and Northampton host Swindon so Hartlepool could easily drop another 2 places but whatever happens the gap is going to close. The weekend also throws up some lower placed battles and that pattern continues until the end of the season, This all means teams will pick up points around Hartlepool. Of course survival is quite simply in there own hands but if Hartlepool fail to get a win or a point over the next week or 2 they will be in big trouble.

Some firms go as short as 4.50 on Hartlepool for the drop so to get double that with Skybet is too good a price for me, 5.0 is probably a fair price i think. Its a tricky little bet but i feel if Southend beat Hartlepool on Friday it will only get shorter.
