WTA - Carla Suarez Navarro v Medina Garrigues

There doesnt seem alot to split these to ahead of this match, And that is reflected with the bookies prices, A couple of firms cant split them and go 1.90 the pair, Not one bookies makes Medina Garrigues the favourite though and that surprises me, But im putting that simple down to the beating Venus Williams factor. Neither of these girls are gifted with a huge serve so it should make for a very interesting match.

Anabel Medina Garrigues the 21st seed and current ranked at 23 has had a very impressive run to round 4 with 3 very straight forward 2-0 wins over Isabella Holland 6-1 7-5, Julie Coin 6-1 6-4 (somebody i thought she might struggle against) and an Excellent 6-4 6-1 win over 12th seed Flavia Pennetta. These are great wins when you consider her serve is nothing special, What is good though is the amount of 1st serves she gets in and the amount of points she wins off it, Her 2nd serve is powder puff and its important tonight that her 1st serve is good. An amazing stat to take from her opening 3 matches is with break points conceded, In all over the course of around 26 service games she has been broken just twice and only offered up 7 break points, these really are unbeliveable stats in womens tennis.

Carla Suarez Navarro the unseeded 46th ranked stunned many with her comeback win over Venus Williams in round 2 and either side of that managed good 2-0 victories over Roberta Vinci R1 and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez R3. Much like her opponent Navarro isnt blessed with a huge serve, but there isnt much difference between her 1st and 2nd serves, Navarro wins a lot more points than many players with her reasonable 2nd serve so wont be overly fussed if her 1st serve fails. In 3 matches Navarro has been broken 9 times and offered 21 break points (4 from 8) Vs Venus. So on paper looks likely to offer up more break points than Garrigues tonight.

Im happy to take Medina Garrigues in this one, she had better tournament stats, is a higher ranked player and has a 4th round under her belt here in the past. Small stakes but im willing to back the 2-0 win @3.75
