WTA - A. Pavlyuchenkova v Garbin
31 year old Garbin has a wealth of experience at 'slam' events and in the past 4 Australian Opens has made it beyond the 1st round on 3 occasions. Ok her game is better suited to clay, but with a decent serve and return game she isnt without chances here. She has made a decent start to the season with wins over Arvidsson and Kleybonova in Brisbane before falling to Bartoli in the Quarters. She was beaten by Czink in Hobart but Czink is a player i like the look of and believe is better than her 100 ranking.
There is no doubting that young Pavlyuchenkova is a player to keep an eye on in the future, She looks a fine talent. This is her 1st Australian Open but that shouldnt be a problem as she coped well in the other 3 slams. A R16 defeat against an improving Rezai in Auckland was followed by a Quarter final in Hobart where she lost to eventual winner Kvitova. Both her defeats were against players i like but if she is to make it big time she should be beating these players.
I can see why Pavlyuchenkova is favourite for this match but looks very skinny at below 1.40 with some firms and a best price of under 1.50 is still too short for me to back her. Im going with Garbin here the 5.50 on a 2-0 win is decent enough and im hoping Garbins experience can see her home. 3.0 on the outright is still a tempting bet too.
