WTA - Karatacheva v Llagostera
An interesting stat this hasnt gone unnoticed here is the record of the 'qualifiers' on the opening day, Of the 8 who played only 1 was successful and between them they picked up just 4 sets. Of the 4 that play tonight 2 are favourites and 2 outsiders, Im going to be bold and oppose both the favourites.
First up:
Sesil Karatancheva came through 3 matches to get here, in the opener she came through in 3 sets against Adamczak (253rd) Karatancheva was broken 4 times in that match and if Adamczak hadnt served up 15 double faults it may have been a different story. 2nd match was against Brengle(219th) Again it went to 3 sets and was riddled with unforced errors 63 from Brengle and 46 from Karatancheva, both players managing to break serve 7 times each. In her final match she overcame Lepchenko (120) in a one sides affair. She has a good run in Brisbane with 4 wins including a win over Benesova.
Nuria Llagostera Vives is picking her way back up the rankings having dropped a fair few place through injury the other year. A short but solid player, she has managed some decent career wins maybe her game is better suited to clay but tonight if she can keep hitting returns then there is a chance Karatancheva will create her own downfall.
It is a risky match to be getting involved with but after the disappointing show from other qualifiers im more than happy to be getting involved with the underdog here and again will backing 2-0 at a tasty 5.0 with William Hill
