Darts Tournament - Jelle Klaasen v R. Van Barneveld
Battle of the dutch at the Ally Pally tonight, and if my 33/1 shot is going to come in, he's got to beat the world's second best player tonight. Can he do it ?
Well, I think he can. Klaasen was very good in the last round against Hamilton and his 4-1 win was just about right, even though at one point he missed 10 doubles on the bounce. It was a great show that he managed to come back from that big negative psychological effort, as many have simply crumbled when they have missed many doubles on the trot.
It is also good news for Klaasen backers that Barney has never beaten his younger countryman on live TV. As I have said before, Klaasen won his BDO title by beating Barney on BBC2 back in 2006, so he will have no fear when he steps up to the Oche tonight.
Barney was pushed all the way by jovial Ronnie Baxter, and it took extra time and penalties to see him through, so you could argue that his form isn't up to scratch either (no offense Baxter fans).
Stats wise, there isn't too much in it with regards to 180's and 3 dart average, and it is always folly to compare form when players have had different types of matches. ie Barney played twice as many legs as Klaasen in the last round, so the 180 count can hardly be compared. Also, you don't know which dart player is going to turn up on the night, as was shown last night when Taylor simply blew away Stompe who played the game as well as a Mr Burton down Foxhall farm !!!!!
For me, this is the changing of the guard in darts as I can see Klaasen beating Barney tonight, then hopefully getting through to meet Taylor in the final.
A few bets on this one, but a big one on the Klaasen win outright.
